Finnish Science center Heureka has announced a new exhibition that demonstrates how our brains evolve during our lifetime. Nitro Games was part of this project by developing the 3D brain simulation part of the system.

Opeta aivoja –näyttelykohde demonstroi, miten aivomme kehittyvät läpi elämämme oman toimintamme vaikutuksesta. Kohteella näyttelykävijä voi soittaa koskettimia, seurata tikulla peilissä näkyvää reittiä, etsiä kissaeläimiä suuresta joukosta erilaisia eläimiä ja tehdä työmuistitehtävää. Aivomallissa kävijä näkee, mitä aivoissa tapahtuu harjoituksen myötä: kunkin tehtävän aikana aktivoituvat aivoalueet laajenevat ja/tai voimistuvat.
Yksi viime vuosisadan tärkeimmistä havainnoista aivotutkimuksessa oli, että myös aikuisen aivot kehittyvät jatkuvasti toimintamme, kokemustemme ja ympäristömme vaikutuksesta. Ihmisen aivoissa on yli sata miljardia hermosolua, neuronia. Niistä jokainen voi muodostaa tuhansia kytkentöjä muihin hermosoluihin. Uusia kytkentöjä syntyy jatkuvasti, vähemmän käytetyt katoavat ja olemassa olevien kytkentöjen voimakkuus muuttuu. Tätä kutsutaan aivojen muovautuvuudeksi.
Aivojen muovautuvuus on välttämätöntä muistillemme sekä kyvyllemme oppia uutta ja kehittyä harjoittelemalla. Se auttaa meitä sopeutumaan uusiin olosuhteisiin ja edistää toipumista aivovaurioista. Vaikka opimme uutta läpi koko elämämme, erityisesti lapsuudessa on ajanjaksoja, jolloin tiettyjen taitojen oppiminen on tehokkaampaa. Jos esimerkiksi haluat tennisammattilaiseksi tai muusikoksi, harjoittelu kannattaa aloittaa nuorena.

Nitro Games and Paradox Interactive have announced Commander: Conquest of the Americas at Paradox Interactive Convention held in Stockholm.
Commander: Conquest of the Americas combines the best elements of trading and strategy games. Set in the 16th century, players will take charge of a wide variety of European nations in efforts to conquer the New World. With as many as 30 ships to control and varied environments (from the Caribbean to the Hudson Bay), players have much to look forward to when the game is released Q3 2010.

Virtual Naval Battles: Ruotsinsalmi game experience has been launched at Maritime Center Vellamo in Kotka, Finland. This standout museum exhibition piece, developed by Nitro Games, showcases the largest battles ever fought on the Baltic in 1789 and 1790.
“We all at Nitro Games are very excited about VNB. As a gamer and developer, I think it is very important that these kind of projects broaden the usage of game tech outside normal games. Games as a medium can be so much more than just entertainment and Virtual Naval Battles is good example of this“, says lead designer Kim Soares.
Virtual Naval Battles is a public project, funded by Regional Council of Kymenlaakso, Cursor Ltd., City of Kotka and Nitro Games.
